NIKON CAPTURE NX2 WILL NOT OPEN NEF FILES 64 BIT
On both of my 64 bit Win 7 computers (laptop, desktop), these file won't open in either Capture NX2 or View NX2. Purchased a Coolpix P7700, which uses the new NRW RAW format. So it's maybe something like the files being protected, or some weird setting. NRW files won't open in CNX2 or View NX2.

However, if you have too old versions software, it shouldn't open the NEF files at all. I get a warning when trying to open an NEF file that says 'can not load file', I go to update in the tab at the top and click. The small size export to me suggests ViewNX2 was only able to extract a small preview from the NEF file, but not interpret the NEF file to properly convert it. While CaptureNX-D isn't quite the application NX2 used to be, as a basic raw editor, it does what it is supposed to do, and it comes free. Better get the latest, supported, tools, especially since they're both free. ViewNX2 is going thew same way sooner or later too. I would at this point try ViewNX-i witrh Capture NX-D CaptureNX2 trial at this point is not very useful, as that application will not receive any updates. JPG files, the file sizes were tiny! Like, 1MB or less! What is up with this? Is it just a fluke with this rented camera, or am I doing something wrong? I've never experienced this before with my D5000. One other thing I am having a hard time understanding: when I left the NEF files un-corrected, but converted them to. What did I do wrong, and is there anyway to do the adjustments outside of Photoshop? I don't have Lightroom, so that's not an option. Go to the Nikon website and choose Imaging Products, search for ViewNX-i, select your camera model and download it. Still not able to make adjustments to it. I imported my NIKON images from Lightroom into CO Pro 2.0 but then I cannot open the NEF files although I have the version which should accept all cameras. Good things first: - The UI differs enough to need a few hours to get used to it but then pays off as faster to access mostly. Since I have been a big fan of Capture NX I immediately downloaded and installed it. I also downloaded a free trial of Capture NX2, hoping that might help. As everybody now knows, Capture NX2 is a major update for Nikons own image processing software and available for use since last week. I thought maybe my computer software was outdated, so I tried getting the most recent version from. However, when I open them in ViewNX, the option to adjust them isn't available. The images from the D600 came out great, but there were some that I would like to make little adjustments to, like color temp and exposure. After the wedding, I normally edit the images with Nikon Transfer and ViewNX.

I didn't completely go through the manual before using, but I know I was shooting RAW files. Ive never had any problems with updates, or even re-installs, counting as 'Installations'. I rented a D600 as a backup camera / 2nd body for a recent wedding I shot. The version shows on the splash screen when NX2 starts or you can click Help / About to display the splash screen when NX2 is up and running.
